Since 2016, Black to Business has highlighted dynamic female founders who have created amazing businesses and have fostered positive changes within our communities. To continue this mission, and in recognition of Women’s History Month, we’ve partnered with Verizon Wireless to host our first Ladies Who Lead Panel!
This intimate event features six dynamic Women at the Forefront of Black Entrepreneurship. Join us as we discuss the journey of entrepreneurship, challenges and wins, and the power of Black female entrepreneurship!
Sherrell Dorsey: Noted technology journalist and social entrepreneur. She is founder of daily tech newsletter,ThePLUG, where she leads content strategy, business partnerships, and growth of the first daily tech newsletter covering black founders and innovators. She is also founder ofBLKTECHCLT, Charlotte's first tech hub supporting entrepreneurs and technologists of color throughout North Carolina.
Michelle Dalzon: Founder oftheBOMaka The Black-Owned Market, a dynamic pop-up experience that connects Black-Owned brands to conscious consumers. Through theBOM, Michelle aims to increase Black dollar circulation, generate capital for Black-Owned businesses, and provide the support that is needed for Black businesses to succeed.
Angelina Darrisaw: Social entrepreneur, an international business and career coach and digital media strategist. She is the founder and CEO ofC-Suite Coach, a career-coaching platform that provides accessible professional development resources to diverse working professionals. Angelina collaborates with employers to create business solutions that empower and educate teams, as well as retain and engage diverse employees. She also facilitates transformative career workshops and experiences that have reached over 4,000 working and aspiring professionals in person, through outlets like outlets including: TEDx, Brown University, West Point, Bank of America, the 2016 Democratic National Convention, WICT’s National Conference, Ebony Magazine’s WomenUp Series andThe NYC BAR Association.
Mandy Bowman: Founder and CEO ofOfficial Black Wall Street, a digital platform and database created to give black-owned businesses, black entrepreneurs, and aspiring entrepreneurs a place to shine. Mandy recently launched the highly anticipated app version of Official Black Wall Street to help people find and support online-based and brick & mortar Black-owned businesses. In 2017 Mandy was invited to TEDx Dover to speak on ownership and long term wealth in the Black community. She was also chosen to present her business pitch to a panel of celebrity entrepreneur judges on Centric TV's new series 'Queen Boss.' Making headlines as the first app to alert users whenever they're near a Black business, the app was featured in Black Enterprise, Essence Magazine, News One, Blavity, CBS News and various other publications. During her professional career Mandy has worked at Atlantic Records, Complex Magazine, and Essence Magazine in social media and digital marketing.
She’Neil Johnson: Founder ofBASE BUTTER, a natural beauty brand providing women of color with access to quality products developed by and for them, building a community of like-minded women of color to collaborate, access & share knowledge. Since its inception BASEBUTTER has been seen in ESSENCE, Cosmopolitan, Brydie Beauty, and CRWN Magazine to name a few. She’Neil Johnson is a graduate of Howard University’s School of Business with a degree in Management Information Systems. She began her full-time career with IBM as a User Experience design consultant, and recently joined Rec Philly, a company Forbes calls “a WeWork for Artists”, as an opportunity creator and marketing strategist.
Moderator - Monique T. Marshall: Entrepreneur, Thought-Leader, Speaker & Influencer. As the Chief in Charge ofBlack to Business, a platform providing resources and connections to aspiring Black entrepreneurs. She is on a mission to increase the number of successful Black startups. Monique has furthered this mission through her podcast, speaking engagements, and workshops. Monique holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Supply Chain Management major) from Howard University.
