Natural Home Solutions from Rocky Mountain Oils | The Beauty Proof

My family’s favorite essential oil brand, Rocky Mountain Oils, recently came out with a line of natural home essentials. They call it AVA Shield. And it’s worth paying attention to.

AVA Shield uses clean, safe ingredients. But it goes one step further by elevating typically boring home products like hand soap and counter spray with an attention to detail that’s rarely found in basic home products. It’s the perfect marriage of effectiveness and high-quality naturals. And—due to the unusually high quality of essential oils contained within—it verges on luxury.

There are three products any family will use constantly and feel good about:

All products are made in the United States and the high quality matches what I’ve come to expect from Rocky Mountain Oils.

The Cool Mint Toothpaste is clinically proven to whiten teeth, restore enamel, and prevent tooth decay. And it has the distinction of making the mouth feel clean, which not all natural toothpastes are great at doing.

If you’ve been using mainstream drugstore toothpastes, here’s what you’ll probably notice about this toothpaste:

If you already use natural toothpastes from your local Whole Foods or health food store, you’ll probably notice:

Here’s the full ingredient list for the AVA Shield Cool Mint Toothpaste: water, glycerin, hydrated silica, xylitol, hydroxyapatite, calcium carbonate, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, cellulose gum, peppermint leaf oil, rebaudioside A, carrageenan, titanium dioxide, spearmint leaf oil, quillaja bark extract.

As an added bonus, the packaging is sturdy and closes securely. So: no goopy mess!

Hand washing is a big deal in our home. Not only because my daughters are ages seven and one and messes are ONGOING. But also because so many hand soaps contain triclosan, an antibacterial agent that is believed to have an adverse effect on the thyroid. My eldest daughter and I are both managing thyroid disease, and we avoid triclosan like the plague.

Instead of controversial nasties like triclosan, this Foaming Hand Soap contains one of my favorite essential oil blends: Immune Strength. Last year, I started diffusing Immune Strength when it seemed like the same cold kept circulating among our friend group. Needless to say, that cold never got our family.

Immune Strength combines clove bud, cinnamon, lemon, orange, oregano (but not enough to make your eyes water), mandarin, thyme, rosemary, nutmeg, ginger root, and eucalyptus oils. The end result is a pleasing combination of spicy and citrus that I now immediately correlate with wellness. And it’s perfectly suited to hand soap.

Here’s the full ingredient list for the AVA Shield Foaming Hand Soap: water, sodium cocoyl glutamate, pentylene glycol, coco betaine, glycerin, immune strength EO blend, benzyl alcohol, hydroxyacetophenone, tetrasodium glutamate diacetate, polyglyceryl-3 cocoate, polyglyceryl-4 caprate, polyglyceryl-6 caprylate, polyglyceryl-6 ricinoleate, cetyl hydroxyethylcellulose, bilberry fruit extract, sugarcane extract, aloe, orange fruit extract, lemon fruit extract, sugar maple extract.

There are a few ingredients here that are rather strong—like clove bud oil—but in my book, that’s alright. As a hand soap, I want this formulation to have some muscle. So although I don’t recommend ingesting it or getting it in your eyes (no one recommends that!) I’m glad there are some powerful ingredients here to deeply clean hands.

By the way—once you try foaming hand soap, there’s no going back. It makes hand-washing quicker and more thorough.

What you use to clean, your home will smell like. And believe me, you want your house to smell like this cleaner.

But infinitely more important than the scent associated with a cleaning spray is the safety of the spray. Popular American cleaning supplies often contain substances linked to serious health problems such as asthma, allergies, cancer, and developmental toxicity. In fact, a 2010 study by the New York State Department of Health found that babies born to women who held cleaning jobs while pregnant had an elevated risk of birth defects.

The ingredients in cleaning products have very real, tangible consequences for the people using them.

When you see that $16 price tag, remember that’s for cleaner concentrate. As a multi-purpose cleaner, you only use 1 part concentrate for 12 parts water. Or for bathrooms, use 1 part concentrate for 8 parts water. You’ll get quite a few diluted spray bottles out of this one bottle of concentrate.

This is the full ingredient list of the AVA Shield Hard Surface Cleaner Concentrate: water, decyl glucoside, polyglyceryl-10 caprylate/caprate, disodium 2-sulfolaurate, sodium methyl 2-sulfolaurate, pentylene glycol, cetyl betaine, phenylpropanol, tetrasodium glutamate diacetate, clove oil, cinnamon oil, lemon peel oil, orange peel oil, oregano leaf extract, thyme oil, mandarin orange oil, rosemary leaf oil, nutmeg oil, ginger root oil, eucalyptus oil.

There’s one important similarity between each of these products. Each one discloses all ingredients. And this level of transparency matters.

It’s hard to believe, but many personal care and home products brands refuse to disclose all ingredients.

When you find a product that stands by all its ingredients—like these—that’s a good thing.

Finding the word “fragrance” on the ingredient lists of other products means the company behind the product has chosen to not disclose all ingredients. Thanks to the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act of 1966, fragrance is considered proprietary information and allowed to be hidden from consumers. So while you see that single word on the label, it may contain any number of secret ingredients.

But here’s the good news: more and more companies are choosing to disclose all ingredients in their cosmetics, thus empowering consumers like you to make a choice with your eyes wide open. Transparency matters. And that’s just another reason I love these products.

Check out how Rocky Mountain Oils has gone above and beyond to ensure their products are pure and natural. BTW—if you’re a science geek, you’re gonna love their process.

My extended family and I have been using Rocky Mountain Oils for years. I was first introduced to their products by my mom, who is savvy when it comes to wellness and natural beauty.

I’ve shared my favorite essential oils for skin and nails before, and—surprise, surprise—they were all from Rocky Mountain Oils.

These are the oils I use and love, and therefore the ones I recommend to you. Here’s why I keep coming back to Rocky Mountain Oils:

The downside is that Rocky Mountain Oils’ products are often more expensive. Still, I continue purchasing RMO. Why? Although I’m tempted to buy a cheaper alternative, I’ve found I’m getting what I pay for. Cheaper alternatives just don’t seem to have the same OOMPH that these ones do.
